The idea that our Constitution "condoned" slavery is a stock liberal/progressive claim. Nothing could be further from the truth.

When the new Tea Party representatives announced their intentions to read the US Constitution on the House floor, liberals waded right in to a two-hundred twenty-two year old controversy when they flatly stated that the original Constitution "condoned" slavery.

Abraham Lincoln did not agree. He revered the Constitution and said that the fact that it nowhere mentioned the words slavery, slave, African, or Negro was a silent but powerful admission that the Founders were ashamed of the existence of slavery among them. They hid it away, Lincoln said, as "an afflicted man hides a wen or tumor."

Abolitionist editor and orator Frederick Douglass also did not agree. He emphasized eloquently that not one word would have to be changed in the Constitution if only the states would follow George Washington's example and voluntarily give up slavery.

Lincoln and Douglass were right. James Madison explained why there was no mention of slavery in the Constitution. The framers were unwilling to admit in the federal charter there could be property in men.

The idea that our Constitution "condoned" slavery and was therefore an immoral document unworthy of being viewed with reverence is a stock liberal claim. It is false.

Most of the Founders wanted to abolish the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Jefferson had denounced that "execrable traffic" in his first draft of the Declaration of Independence.

But South Carolina and Georgia delegates would not go along and, significantly, some in New England recognized the powerful influence of merchants whose ships included slavers.

But they were able to get into the original Constitution a provision which allowed Congress to ban the Slave Trade in twenty years. How odd for all those Washington liberals who today tout compromise to attack as immoral and vile this most important of compromises. Would most of the Founders have so desperately wanted to ban the Slave Trade if they thought it a good thing if they condoned it?

When, as President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson urged Congress to act before January 1, 1808 to ban the Slave Trade, he denounced it in the strongest language ever used by any president prior to Lincoln. He called it a violation of the "human rights of unoffending Africans." The great work of William Wilberforce in abolishing the Slave Trade in the British Empire would have been fruitless unless Jefferson had acted simultaneously in America.

Then, there's the ritual repeating of the falsehood that the Founders viewed black people as "three fifths of a person." That is a wholly tendentious misreading of the Three-Fifths Clause.

Don Fehrenbacher is a leading authority on this. In his penetrating study, The Slaveholding Republic, he writes: "[The] fraction 'three-fifths' had no racial meaning. It did not represent a perception of blacks as three-fifths human…" It was a compromise on methods of levying taxes and apportioning representation in Congress.

Further, the 3/5ths Compromise reduced the power in Congress of slaveholding states while giving an electoral bonus to any state that voluntarily emancipated its slaves. When seven of the original thirteen states abolished slavery, they were allowed to count free black people in the census for purposes of representation in Congress.

It is especially galling to have liberals attack Republicans on these matters. They forget that it was Republicans who gave us the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments -- those great guarantees of civil rights. Every vote cast against those amendments was cast by a Democrat. It was Republicans who passed the first anti-lynching bill in the House -- in 1922. Those bills were routinely killed by Senate Democrats until 1957.

Michelle Bachmann was bashed by several big names, like former president Bill Clinton and Garrison Keillor. Clinton said Bachmann makes former Republican Presidents Richard Nixon and George W. Bush look like liberals and student radicals. He also said great GOP presidents like Theodore Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower would vote for Clark [her Democratic opponent].

Ask yourself: Why would the DNC unleash their supposed “big gun” Bill Clinton on Michelle Bachmann and compare her to 4 different Republican presidents, especially 2 of the most popular presidents in American history, Theodore Roosevelt and General Dwight D. Eisenhower—in an attempt to keep her from being re-elected to a third term as a Minnesota U.S. Representative?

Doesn't it seem just a little bit over-the-top, and unseemly, for an ex-President, working for the current one, to be involved in the Minnesota U.S. Congressional election at all...and ESPECIALLY by comparing Michelle Bachmann to 4 PRESIDENTS?

Why did the DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE pump a whopping $3.5 million into this one election alone—just to try to defeat little ol’ “crazy” Michelle Bachmann? Especially if—as they are so fond of saying—she is so “extremist” and “radical” that NO ONE would possibly vote for her…except the “equally-insane” residents of her “ultra-rightwing” Congressional district.

And what does it say about Michelle Bachmann's ability to make her message resonate with voters when she raised TRIPLE the $3.5 million amount the DNC threw behind her opponent, to raise a UNITED STATES CONGRESSIONAL RACE RECORD $11 million cold - coming from grassroots donors all over the country?

Her message is simple: I oppose Obama and so do you. We will read & adhere to the limits placed on the federal government as they are written into the U.S. Constitution like you are demanding we do. I will continue to fight against the Democrats that seek to ignore it, and you want me to.

At this time in our nation's history, she and to some extent, Ron Paul (who, though pretty good on issues of liberty, sometimes has a propensity towards veering off into la-la land) are the only two potential candidates who seem to be able to best articulate the messages Americans are wanting their politicians to hear:

Messages of a need to restore Constitutional government, reducing the size of government intrusion, and restoring Constitutional rule of law to legislative and executive decision-making.

That's not the Democratic Party message; quite the contrary. The Democratic Party message --Barack Obama's message--is one of even MORE government intrusion & control, less Constitution, and more "social-engineering" and "redistributing" America's wealth overseas, or to those too lazy or stupid to want to be free.

At this time in our nation's history, when Rasmussen polling data is showing that only 23% of Americans feel that D.C. is leading our country in the right direction and 64% of GOP voters believe that we have the greatest divide between the people and the government than at any time since the American Revolution-- it would be a HUGE mistake for the JournoList listserv ObamaMedia and their Obama-sycophantic raving Demonrat insult-slinging low-brow Neanderthal peanut gallery to think anybody is going to be swayed by their derisive obduracy in presuming they hold the upper hand.

What Obama is doing in encouraging this anarchy in the streets of Egypt is totally irresponsible. Obama is an idiot, a spineless jellyfish, and a usurper. He is proving every day that he is an enemy to this country that may not even be his own. He certainly was not raised as an American, and he is increasingly becoming a lackey of Communist Russia and Communist China, both of whom he seems to have more respect for than any of America's traditional allies. He has opened the door to Muslim Hamas and Hezbollah, Russia, and China, while slamming it shut on England, Germany, Poland and Australia to name a few. What good can possibly come of his presidency? Regardless of what is happening in Egypt, it is simply irresponsible for a president of the United States to promote lawlessness and rioting in the street of another nation.

America's leftists are so devoid of decency and morality that you sided with Obama when he turned his back on the Iranian people seeking real freedom. These were people who had a real reason to protest having an election stolen from them. They voted through a legal process and only resorted to the streets after trying to have their grievances against a tyrannical Islamic shar'ia dictatorship through a legitimate democratic vote. What was Obama's response to these true freedom-seekers? He turned his back on them....and hardly, gave them the time of day.

What did they do? America's leftists parroted the same excuses he did for not "meddling" in Iranian affairs, while Iranians were beaten and shot down like dogs in the streets of Tehran.

Now, here they are, supporting this cretin as he instigates unlawful insurrection against Mubarak and the government of Egypt.

It is beneath the dignity of the office of the President of the United States of America to engage in openly promoting insurrection through rock and bottle throwing in the streets. How is that an acceptable means of government change in Egypt or anywhere else? Would Obama and the left accept the same thing here that they promote in the streets of Egypt to remove Obama from office? He couldn't bring himself to take a stand for the voters of Iran, but he will side with the street thugs looking for unlawful redress in the streets and alleys of Cairo.

The Social Security pyramid scheme is confiscatory in nature. It is both punitive and immoral.

It is punitive in that money is removed from a person's earnings that he then has to 'qualify' to receive a portion back after meeting such conditions as the government bureaucrats deem necessary to 'qualify.' Everybody who pays into Social Security doesn't get anything near what they paid into it. And in the vast majority of the cases, if a person dies before collecting any of it, the government, by default, keeps all of it - it is un-inheritable confiscated earnings. I can't leave the balance of what I paid into it to my children unless they are under the age of 21. Once they reach that age, however, they get nothing. If I die after they have reached the age of 21, they get none of what I earned and had confiscated from those earnings.

It is immoral. Many people are receiving Social Security benefits having paid in nothing. This is welfare paid from the earnings of others to those who, in many instances, are able-bodied people gaming the system or have contributed through lifestyle choices to their own conditions which end up with their being dependent on welfare. It is immoral for my earnings to go to pay for someone else's needs not related to me, and at the same time, not have any control or ownership or heritability over my own earnings. I can't leave it to my 22 year old son or daughter, but the government can give it to yours.

Social Security is an inherently corrupt, immoral, and punitive system; it's socialism. And socialism always results in punitive and immoral corruption. FDR himself, admitted that Social Security was just another vote pandering exercise

FDR admitted that the Social Security Act, which we are burdened with trying to "fix" now, was nothing but a vote pandering device. FDR said, "I guess you're right on the economics, but those taxes were never a problem of economics. They were politics all the way through."

It's time for the citizens of America to man up and admit that we are going to have to return to basic principles of liberty. With liberty comes responsibility. We must not continue to support what makes us ever more dependent on the welfare state. We must not accept the premise that when times get hard we must vote for politicians who will provide us with "security" whether that be "Social" or "Health insurance" security. There is no security in the type of human insecurity that requires dependency on handouts and welfare entitlements. The pervasiveness of this mentality in today's American society is being exploited by politicians, and only insures their devotion to 'never letting a crisis go to waste,' but use it to further create insecurity...because they benefit from it with your loyalty...and your vote.

Today's "progressives" or liberals, whatever they're calling themselves this year, have no problem embracing Islam. They believe that if they can create a false moral equivalency between a "religion" that most Americans perceive as violent- and which teaches that man's station in life is to kill or engage in bloodlust against those who choose to serve a different "God."  

In attempting to deem Islam as worthy of the same respect as Christian teaching- they seek to paint Christianity as just as repressive, and even evil, as Islam. In marrying all religions together in this way- debasing them by association with the death cult of Islam - they believe it is possible to, thereby, discredit Christianity as well, and thus, Christian values whose tenets under the new covenant – (not the Old Testament which is pre-Christ’s redemption) - hold men and mankind to a higher standard than the desires and lusts of his carnal nature.

Islam to them is not anathema – it is useful to the “progressive” agenda as functional foil to Christianity. What makes it useful is that, like “progressive humanism, it too caters to the basest of base instincts. “progressives” and Islamists share equally in common determination and dedication to employ whatever heinous methods and deceptions necessary to achieve it's end – i.e., murder, submission to the authority of cultish dictators;  justifying murderous savagery against your fellow man; basing authority over citizens by some pretext of false-superior intellect (or ‘holiness’ and pseudo-"spiritual" justification in Islam’s case). The means used by Islamists are tolerable to the "progressive" because they and the Islamic fascists have a common goal—a fascist/socialist end—equal outcome; equal misery.

Equal misery to Islamism and "Progressivism" is preferable to individual responsibility. Both Islam and Socialist progressivism hold the promise of communism, i.e., if I am unable to succeed, the “law of the group” will require you to stay down with me...so you either share in my misery, or you allow me to benefit equally from the fruits of your labor.

To the Islamist and the "progressive" your life is not your own; your fate is not your own; your destiny is decided by the governors of the state; the keepers of the social doctrine- the political "imams" whether that be the Islamic Caliphate or the caliphate of politicians in Washington, D.C.—tyranny. Islam is tyranny—and so is socialism.

While I'm not accusing "progressives" of condoning murder—except the murder of the unborn, I am accusing them of embracing the corrupt religiosity of Islam. For in so doing, they seek to brand as corrupt, all religions by association.

This is why today's anti-Christian "progressives," even here in America, are embracing Islam even while some of them are serving in the military and fighting against people who claim Islam is the reason they attack us.

For the liberal "progressive" agenda—central government-controlled socialism—to have a chance of succeeding in America, Christianity (following the teachings of Christ and the New Testament of the Holy Bible) must be discredited. People must not believe in a power higher than themselves in order that they can be made to worship only other men and allow themselves to be governed--not by higher principles of personal relationship with God (Jesus), which is the origin of freedom--but by Government as the highest authority to be respected over us. The ideals of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” is realized only as it pertains to an acceptance of God as the Creator of our possessing it. “Our God-given freedom" is an acknowledgement which precludes the political class’ ability to control us –to enslave us—to restrict us into a situation where we are no longer free.

As Benjamin Franklin warned, as if visualizing that such an occurrence might one day become the clear and present danger that it is today:

We are simply too free to be of any use to the overall “progressive” agenda, and Christianity guarantees our knowledge that we are free. Our freedom from the carnal control of mortal dictators and rulers is the freedom that government can neither give us nor take away. When we acknowledge God, we acknowledge that our life, therefore our freedom, does not fall under the authority of any man. Freedom is freedom from the authority of men who would rule over our lives and our consciences.

Christianity (and Judaism) is the only religious belief systems standing in the way of the total authority of Socialism, Marxism, Fascism, and Communism. That is why they seek to defame, undermine, and bury it. By any means necessary.

Another thing about this case, and one that should cause every American to question the character of this President, is his inability to display any solidarity with either our troops risking their lives on the battlefield or those who are presently reeling from this Islamist's attack from within their ranks at home.

While the community of soldiers at Ft. Hood are grieving and have to be asking the questions crossing the minds of ALL Americans concerned with their security -Are there any more Arabic descent soldiers who will be swayed by some understanding of their roles as Muslims to commit similar acts?- this president remains detached, aloof, nonchalant, and defiant in his determination to distance himself from those who operate on the front lines of the war of Islamic aggression being waged against our country from without- and now from within our own ranks.

 What kind of President would not have already, and immediately, suspended all scheduled business to attend to the soldiers on that base in person- knowing how much power would be in that gesture alone? - "I am here, I came to stand by you and stand with you. I assure you that no stone will be left unturned; no question go unasked; and no amount of effort will be spared to get to the bottom of this and to make sure that something like this will never be allowed to happen to our brave men and women who spearhead our nation's defense!"

Not this President- not Barack Hussein Obama. In Illinois, he was known to vote "present" more than any other Senator. Here, he pretends to not even have a vote...or a role to play at all. That's his first dereliction of duty.

What President, knowing the questions and concerns that are roiling in the minds and souls of the American people—some who even have sons and daughters and grandchildren stationed at Ft. Hood and other military bases throughout the country and throughout the world—would maintain such an aloofness as to not find it necessary to address the American people in a formal way; speaking to them about what is taking place in the way of getting to the bottom of this situation?  A situation in our military vetting policies and decision-making  which allowed for a Muslim soldier who time-and-time again gave every indication of the psychological and spiritual difficulty he was having in carrying out his role as a high-ranking member of the U.S. Armed Forces to continue to be promoted; rather than immediately removed from active duty—transferred from Walter Reed Army Hospital—to interact on one of our nation’s most front line bases with the very individuals whose mission and actions in Iraq & Afghanistan he was well- known to be having difficulty in reconciling with as legitimate.

This President –in an unprecedented display of insensitivity; an apparent lack of common decency; and with no apparent understanding of the role that is his by virtue of being the sitting President of these United States—instead of addressing the nation as is any President’s solemn duty to do—has sought to detach himself from the semblance of any responsibility to address us at all. Dereliction of duty number two.

 This incident—this terrorist attack against unarmed soldiers in garrison—committed by a man who was allowed to wear the uniform of our Army while openly harboring and voicing such resentment against the very cause for which those who wear it are enlisted—is not a tragedy—it is a travesty against all that is America and most glaringly against our Armed Service members. Equally a travesty, is Barack Hussein Obama being their so-called Commander-in-Chief.

It is not enough to dispatch Eric Holder’s FBI investigators to “clean up the mess” while the President remains engaged in –and only concerned with—twisting the arms of reticent Congressmen to shove his latest socialist takeover down the throats of an unwilling public. What could possibly be more important than making his presence felt at our latest Ground Zero. Fort Hood is Ground Zero today. And no amount of denial and false labeling will convince us that it’s not. This was America’s second Islamic terrorist attack since Barack Obama took office. When the first occurred in April at the Army Recruiting Center in Little Rock—he said nothing. The second occurred on November 5^th 2009 and he does nothing. 

Rather, he seemed to be perturbed that it spoiled his speech and ‘shout outs’ in apologizing—once again—for America’s insensitivity to American Indian tribal leaders—only giving time to make the most cursory of comments, masked as condolences—before resuming his latest tabulation of America’s evils.

That this President—Barack Hussein Obama—has displayed neither the will nor the leadership to confront this issue and speak to it—to the world and to the citizen of this nation to at least give the appearance of leadership—is an abomination; a travesty; and a national disgrace.  

No…no…no. Not “God damn America….”

This, above all else he has shown, should be proof-positive, that Barack Hussein Obama is not one of us—and that whatever he is—he does not have America’s best interests at heart.

I watched their reporting of this story last evening...and true to form, their parrot trolls are out in force with the same tired liberal strategy of irrelevant relevancy, projection, and purposeful obfuscation of the facts.

Yes...other presidents have spoken to the nation's schoolchildren.

But NO other president and his administration has submitted a politically-charged and self-serving "Lesson Plan" encouraging the teachers of those children to cultivate their youthful minds with cultish questions about "What can we do to help our president?" and "What do you think the president is asking you to do?" and "What do you think he will say next time?"

These children are being carefully programmed to think about, and ponder nothing but Barack Hussein Obama; both BEFORE and AFTER his speech. The White House and DOE, in putting this "Lesson Plan" together, even goes so far as to suggest follow up projects dealing with Obama's speech; kids testifying before their classmates about the speech (whether singularly or in groups of two); and writing letters about how they can "help" President Barack Obama.

Help him do WHAT?

This is unprecedented in a free country, especially the United States of America.

But the mainstream media last night, true to form, ignored this little tidbit...even though it ALONE is the source of ALL the protestations against the Obama regime. Naturally, they feign surprise at the outrage....insinuating that this is a visceral hate movement led by well-organized conservative protestors and Republicans.

As one fellow TH poster stated yesterday on one of these threads: What we are witnessing, with the administration of Barack Hussein Obama, is the insurrection and willful destruction of our Republic by misguided, self-proclaimed revolutionaries left over from the '60s hippie drug culture movement, being unleashed upon this country. This is just the continuance of SDS, the old Black Panther movement, and Vietnam protest movements. Barack Obama and his czars represent all the elements who, for silly reasons of their own, are against "the establishment" demonized by the hippies and yippies of the '60s. Communism and collectivism is the golden calf they have nurtured and deluded themselves in thinking is superior to free-market capitalism.

Had their real motives been recognized by the celebrity worshipping idiots who voted for this radical...he would never have been elected in the first place.

They allowed themselves to be led into this with their blind eyes wide open.

Now, they are having to deal with the results of their being caught up in a cult of personality which threatens to reduce them from their cherished "middleclassness" to the poverty-generating insane elevation of socialist collectivism--Soviet-style.
